How do we develop and celebrate the Welsh language and culture at St. David's?
We are proud of our Welsh culture, customs and language. We are working hard to develop and celebrate the Welsh language throughout the school. A key factor in learning any language is to enjoy learning so we aim to make learning Welsh fun for our pupils. We use games, digital technology and effective language strategies to make Welsh lessons and activities as engaging as possible. We celebrate important Welsh events and celebrations and ensure that Cynefin (a sense of Belonging) is at the centre of our curriculum.
At St David's we are trying our best to include as much Welsh into our everyday school life. It is good to greet people in Welsh; 'Bore da', 'Shwmae?' We ask for our dinner in Welsh, we say the Weather, we say Welsh prayers and at playtime we include some Welsh games.
Last year we achieved our 'Siarter Iaith Award - Silver.' This year we will be aiming for our Siarter Iaith Gold Award.
What is the Siarter Iaith? Beth yw'r Siarter Iaith?
The Siarter Iaith (Welsh Language Charter) is a framework to help schools ensure that the Welsh language is used and developed and that Welsh culture is celebrated as an integral part of the life of the school.
Ffa La La songs
Ffa La La is a Welsh langauge programme that teaches Welsh vocabulary and language patterns through song. All classes use Ffa La La songs as part of everyday routines and Welsh lessons to develop their Welsh language skills.
